Munchhausen's Ride on the Cannon Ball
Baron Münchhausen, the baron of lies, is an 18th century German baron with whom many tall tales are associated. While the baron himself was a real person, the tales are basically a spoof of wartime tales soldiers would bring home, and have been written by many authors over the years.
In one of his most famous tales, he relates how he once spied on an enemy fort by riding a cannonball that flew over it and looked down to see the layout of the place from above. He then switched to an enemy cannonball mid-air to head back and inform his troops.
