Fantasy Short Story

This piece was originally written for 101Fiction, an online publication that publishes stories of exactly 100 words in length, plus one word for the title. The topic for issue 17, published December 2017, was Heroes & Monsters

I took the opportunity to introduce a character I had on my mind for some time. Aeliseia is an attempt to insert an original character in ancient mathology. The blind sculptor is based on and named in hommage to Alicia Masters from the Fantastic Four comics, a blind sculptor who is the prime love interest for Ben Grimm/The Thing.

I think by including her in the place I did, I found the perfect place for such a character to fit the overall world and have a role of her own. Yes, she is clearly somewhat oblivious to what it is she's doing, but that does work well in the context of tragic figures. I plan to revisit her whenever it's appropriate for her to show up.

The story was originally written in American spelling but converted for the publication, which was UK-based.
