Ghostly
Science Fiction Short StoryThis is the first of two stories coming from a January 2016 prompt by Chuck Wendig, who posted a few random titles for flash fiction stories. Regulatory Measures along with Ghostly springs from “Future Graveyard”, hence both are similar in having a premise that involves the predictability of battles to the tiniest detail, though Regulatory Measures is the more explicit of the two.
The idea could not be stated more directly: What if environmentalism stops wars?
The result has shades of Isaac Asimov's psycho-history from the Foundation series of books. We have historians with the ability to predict the future trying to change the outcome of events, if not their own predicted future history itself.
